A reflection on how God uses our breaking moments to refine faith and shape something stronger.
Scripture
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:7–8
Reflection
There are seasons in life when faith does not feel strong.
It feels quiet.
Fragile.
Sometimes even exhausted.
Prayer becomes difficult. Words don’t come easily. Questions begin to rise in the silence, and we wonder if God is still listening.
These moments can feel like spiritual failure. We imagine that real faith should look confident and unwavering. Yet the Bible tells a very different story.
Many of the people closest to God walked through seasons of deep struggle. David cried out in the Psalms. Elijah collapsed in exhaustion beneath a tree. Even Jesus, in His humanity, prayed through anguish in the garden.
Faith has never been about pretending to be strong.
It has always been about continuing to reach for God even when our strength is gone.
Sometimes the most honest prayer is simply, “Lord, I’m still here.”
And that is enough.
Spiritual Insight
God does not abandon us in seasons of breaking.
Often, those seasons are where His deepest work begins.
Just as fire refines gold, hardship has a way of revealing what truly lives inside our hearts. It strips away the things we thought we needed to hold everything together and reminds us that our strength was never meant to come from ourselves.
In the middle of struggle, it may feel as though life is falling apart.
But in God’s hands, what feels like breaking can become refining.
What feels like loss can become transformation.
And what feels like weakness can become the place where His power shines the brightest.
God is not afraid of our fragile moments.
He meets us there.
Connection to the Song
“Crushed Not Broken” was written for the moments when faith feels tired and fragile.
It reflects the quiet battle many people carry — the feeling of trying to hold on to hope while walking through pain, uncertainty, or spiritual exhaustion.
The song acknowledges that sometimes we feel as if we are falling apart.
But it also reminds us of a deeper truth:
God is still present in the breaking.
The refining fire is not meant to destroy us. It is meant to shape us.
Even when we feel cracked, weary, or overwhelmed, God continues working beneath the surface — restoring, strengthening, and forming something new within us.
What feels like the end of our strength may actually be the beginning of a deeper faith.
Stillness
Take a quiet moment and think about a season in your life that felt heavy or overwhelming.
Perhaps you felt worn down, discouraged, or unsure of how to keep moving forward.
Now consider this:
What if God was not absent in that moment?
What if He was gently shaping something within you that could only be formed through that experience?
Let this truth settle in your heart:
God is not finished with your story.
Even in the breaking, He is still working.
Take a slow breath and whisper this prayer:
“Lord, even when I feel weak, help me trust that You are still shaping me.”
Prayer
God,
There are moments when life feels heavier than I expected and faith feels harder than I imagined. When my strength runs low and my heart feels fragile, remind me that You are still near.
Help me trust that the difficult seasons of my life are not wasted. Shape my heart through them. Refine my faith and draw me closer to You.
When I feel crushed by circumstances, remind me that I am never beyond Your care. Hold me steady when I feel weak, and guide me through every season of refining.
Thank You for never giving up on the work You have begun in me.
Amen.
